Mason Sixth Graders Brighten the Holiday Season for Local ElderlyMason Intermediate sixth graders on Team Venture recently participated in a "Venture Out" service project that helped prepare hearts and minds for the holiday season.

A group of students, parents, and teachers visited the Mason Health Care Center after school in December. Students helped elderly residents at the center create a Christmas craft and sang carols with the residents as they worked.

“When we walked in, a resident talked to us and was so happy, because she loved crafts and that people were here to visit with her," shared MI sixth grader Bri Flores. "It made me feel good because people don't really visit her that often and I was glad I could help out."

"The resident I worked with told me stories about growing up as an only child. It made me feel humble to have a sister," reflected MI sixth grader Carmen  Mathis

The Mason Health Care Center is a small, 43 bed Nursing Care facility on Cox-Smith Road. Students agreed that participating in this service project was worthwhile, even though it meant giving up free time after school.

"Helping others can inspire you to do more good in your life, " shared MI sixth grader Jazmyn Johnson.
